Use your Info Architecture (IA) skills to solve a real-world design challenge.

Join IA Day Manila's Design Jam to work on a design problem that the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) deals with every day.

Flow:

I.  What is World IA Day?

II.  What is a design jam?

III.  What challenge will we work on?

IV.  Can I join?

V. What do I need to prepare?

World IA Day

On February 18, 2017, we'll join 64 cities all over the world in celebrating World IA Day again.

World IA Day is an annual gathering of tech, content and design practitioners who are passionate about designing information to make it usable, useful and strategic.

Last year, over 120 developers, designers, strategists and managers came together in Manila, to listen to seven (7) speakers who shared their experiences about architecting information for Filipinos.

Now, to follow 2016's engaging Q&A and requests from attendees, let's take things a step further and participate in a hands-on activity -- a design jam.

Do you want the Philippines to start having better organized and disseminated information?

What is a Design Jam?

Design jams are one-day events for people who love to design, code or build products. It's a moderately structured hands-on exercise where practitioners come together and solve a challenge (usully running anywhere between 3 hours to 2 days). For our event, we'll be having the design jam from 2PM to 6PM.

What will we work on?

Our guests from DTI's Negosyo Center Program will be presenting an everyday design problem that they face - specifically, one that better Information Architecture can help resolve.

Can I join the design jam?

This is for all of us who are Filipino information architects, UX and industrial design professionals, developers, web designers, software engineers, content managers, and taxonomists from different lines of work (whether by profession, or by interest) --

What do I need to prepare?

If you'll join, you will need to bring:

  • an open mind
  • design tools that you need for structuring information or prototyping a design (pens, paper, markers, laptops, chargers), and
  • a willingness to work with a new set of people.

We'll provide sticky notes and big sheets of paper for each breakout team.

You will be grouped into multi-discipline teams, representing different types of skills or backgrounds to come up with IA output.

(Last year, we had a good mix: >20% developers and software engineers, >20% digital strategists, social media strategists, brand managers, <20% designers (visual, web/UI, UX, motion/interactive media), 10% project managers. The rest were students, freelancers, analysts, and other roles.)

BEFORE IA DAY (February 18, 2017)

If you register, you will be sent a sample "information packet" that we will be working on for IA Day.

It will be your responsibility to type (encode) this information into a spreadsheet, or word processing document (Google Sheets, Google Docs, MS Excel, MS Word, etc.) as part of your involvement in the design jam.

Confirming Your Attendance

We'll need to prioritize ticket-holders during registration, because this will be a working session and participants will be assigned groups. Register to be updated about group assignments and sponsor giveaways.

And because we want to pack as much value into IA Day Manila...

Registration opens at 1:00PM. This will give us ample time to tell you your team assignment, introduce you to your team members and give you an overview of our activity flow before the challenge briefing at 2:00PM.

Latecomers will have a harder time integrating themselves into their working teams - especially if you miss the Q&A with the DTI team.

  • Follow us on Facebook to stay updated about details.

  • Contact us at hi@prioritystudios.com , if you'd like to volunteer or support the community who will attend the event.

  • A Request: We'd love to meet you on IA Day. But if, by any chance, you suddenly can't make it, could you do us a bit of kindness and inform us, so we can open up some ticket slots for others? Or, you can always give that spot to an interested friend :) Our Eventbrite tickets are transferable.
